Do you need a pass to visit Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area?
There's no entrance gate or vehicle fee to enter Flaming Gorge itself. A Recreation Use Pass ($5/day, $15/week, or $35/year) is only required at major boat launches and the Little Hole National Recreation Trail — not for general sightseeing or driving through.

Where can I buy a Flaming Gorge Recreation Use Pass?
Passes are sold at self-pay kiosks in boat launch parking areas, at local vendors around Manila and Dutch John, and at Forest Service offices. They are not available for purchase online, so plan to buy one on arrival or in advance from a local vendor.
Does my America the Beautiful pass work at Flaming Gorge?
Yes — America the Beautiful Senior, Access, Annual, and Volunteer Passport holders are exempt from the Recreation Use Pass (as are older Golden Age, Golden Access, and still-valid Golden Eagle passports). Bring your pass to show at the launch if asked.
Do I need a pass just to drive through or sightsee at Flaming Gorge?
No. The Recreation Use Pass is only required at major boat launches and the Little Hole National Recreation Trail. Scenic drives, overlooks, and visitor centers don't require it.
Is the Recreation Use Pass the same as a fishing license?
No — the Recreation Use Pass covers access to boat launches and Little Hole Trail. Fishing itself requires a separate Utah or Wyoming fishing license (Flaming Gorge straddles both states, and license requirements depend on which water you're fishing), sold separately from the recreation pass.
