Incredible experience! 24 horses during sunrise right near camping spot. If you have a vehicle to do it, take one of the many two tracks and climbed the Butte. Fantastic views!

We didn't see any wild horses up here this go round, although we did spot some down near Flaming Gorge. That being said, it was BEAUTIFUL and we even took a small detour to go up to Pilot Butte itself to get to higher ground. Gorgeous!

Wow, just wow. We had an almost spiritual experience here. When we first started the loop it was raining but then it cleared off and we got to see this amazing rainbow, or two. Then we saw the pronghorns and my fiancée was ecstatic. We didn’t plan on seeing any horses due to a very recent review that said they were all gone. I thought seeing the pronghorns was amazing but there in the sunset by the butte, was a LOT of wild horses. It was majestic and almost spiritual. I’m so glad we got to see this as the timing was literally once in a lifetime. I will be adding this to literally my favorite places in the country. 10/10 recommend! FYI it’s a long trip so potty beforehand and take water. Little car was fine as well.

Really enjoyed this scenic route! Don’t listen to the one star reviews about no horses. We saw several herds on the Rock Springs side. We saw some fighting, saw multiple foals, and saw herds running. They crossed the road in front of us twice and were fairly close. In addition to horses, we saw bald eagle, osprey, grouse, and a massive coyote. The views are amazing and we spent about 3 hours enjoying the route. Bring binoculars! FREE! I wish we had looked into camping before arriving, it’s gorgeous.

Worth the drive we saw 3 different herds of horses over 40+ horses. Just keep your eyes out. I suggest you go early morning around sunrise or evening just before sunset. But do not try to touch or feed the horses. Just admire their beauty.
